Woven Bamboo Pendant Lights

Handwoven bamboo pendant lights bring natural warmth and decorative shadow patterns to kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and living spaces. Our collection features open-weave bamboo pendant lights made by Thai artisans using bamboo and rattan strips finished entirely by hand. The loose, airy weave is what sets this style apart from tighter wicker or denser rattan designs — light passes freely between the bamboo strips, casting soft golden glow and intricate shadow patterns across surrounding walls and ceilings.

Our woven bamboo pendant lights range from round shapes like JUNDARA to the drop-shaped DARIN and tall, slim designs such as KHE MI KA. Sizes run from compact shades under 20 cm across for bedside reading nooks to statement pieces over 40 cm wide above kitchen islands and dining tables. Every design is sold as a shade only, to hang from a plug-in pendant kit or a hardwired ceiling cord set, both sold separately.

The Story Behind the Craft

Several of these shapes, including KHE MI KA and A RA DA, are based on the bamboo fish traps once used in rural Thailand, now woven to let light filter through the open weave. Because every shade is handwoven, small variations in size, shape, colour and weave from piece to piece are part of its handmade character.

Above Kitchen Islands

Picture three woven bamboo pendants suspended at staggered heights above a long kitchen island — soft golden light pooling on the counter, decorative shadows climbing the wall behind. The open weave suits island clusters perfectly: light passes through in every direction, lighting both the surface below and the room beyond. For a 1.8 m island, three 30 cm pendants spaced 60 cm apart works beautifully; larger 40 to 45 cm pendants suit shorter clusters of two.

Above Dining Tables

Over a dining table, a single large woven bamboo pendant becomes the centrepiece of every evening meal. The open weave casts an intricate shadow pattern on the table itself, a texture you don't get from a smooth-shaded pendant. Our widest woven shades are around 40 to 45 cm across, so over a long table, two or three pendants in a row often look better than one.

For Bedside & Reading Nooks

A single 25–30 cm woven bamboo pendant above a bedside table changes the whole feel of a bedroom. Where a table lamp takes up surface space, a pendant frees it — and the open weave casts soft, decorative light that's far warmer to read by than a bare bulb. Hang it 18–24 inches above the bedside surface; two matched pendants either side of the bed look effortlessly considered.

Why Thai Home Shop — not Amazon or IKEA

  • Every light is handwoven by a named Thai artisan — not factory-produced.
  • Sustainable bamboo sourced from the same villages we've worked with for over two decades.
  • Each piece is unique — the slight variations in weave are the mark of a real artisan, not a defect.
  • You can't buy this story at a big-box store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Woven bamboo pendant lights feature a loose, open weave that creates airy shadow patterns and maximum light diffusion — ideal when you want the pendant to cast its own pattern on surrounding walls. Wicker bamboo pendant lights use tighter, more structured weaving for a more refined texture. Rattan bamboo pendant lights use rattan cane strips woven into more intricate, detailed designs with a slightly smoother finish. All three are handwoven by Thai artisans from natural materials, but the look and light effect differ noticeably.

For an 8-foot ceiling, hang the bottom of the pendant 30–36 inches above a table or countertop (add roughly 3 inches per extra foot of ceiling height). For bedrooms, hang 18–24 inches above bedside tables. For kitchen islands with multiple pendants, space them 24–30 inches apart and aim for the bottom to sit about 75–90 cm above the worktop. Shades come with their hanging hardware, but without a cord or bulb: use a plug-in pendant kit near a socket, or have a qualified electrician fit a ceiling cord set.

Either, because our woven bamboo pendant lights are sold as shades only, without a cord, ceiling fitting or bulb. For a plug-in light, pair the shade with a plug-in pendant kit, which suits renters, rooms without a ceiling rose and quick setups. For a permanent fit, use a ceiling cord set installed by a qualified electrician. Both are sold separately. Check each product page for socket and bulb details, or contact us if you need help choosing.

For dining tables, choose a pendant about 30 cm (12 in) narrower than the table width, or hang two or three smaller shades along a longer table. Over an island, cluster 25 to 35 cm pendants 60 to 80 cm apart, or hang one of our widest shades, around 40 to 45 cm across. As a general room-size rule, add the room's length and width in feet; that number in inches is a good diameter guide for one central pendant. Contact us if you would like help choosing a size.

Not a problem. Every order comes with a 30-day return window — if the light doesn't work in your space, contact us to arrange a return. Return postage is paid by the customer, and the original shipping cost is deducted from the refund.
