Woven Bamboo Pendant Lights

Handwoven bamboo pendant lights bring natural warmth and decorative shadow patterns to kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and living spaces. Our collection features open-weave bamboo pendant lights made by Thai artisans using bamboo and rattan strips finished entirely by hand. The loose, airy weave is what sets this style apart from tighter wicker or denser rattan designs — light passes freely between the bamboo strips, casting soft golden glow and intricate shadow patterns across surrounding walls and ceilings.

Our woven bamboo pendant lights come in classic round shapes, oval and bell silhouettes, and the more sculptural bird-nest style. Sizes range from compact 25 cm shades for bedside reading nooks to oversized 60 cm focal pieces above kitchen islands and dining tables. Choose plug-in fixtures with adjustable cords for renters and quick installation, or hardwired pendants for a permanent ceiling-rose fit. Pieces like JUNDARA and TEERAYA show the open weave at its most striking.

The Story Behind the Craft

The artisans in our village transformed traditional Thai bamboo fishing traps into these minimalist pendant lights, celebrating generations of weaving heritage. The open-weave technique in our woven bamboo pendant lights is the same one used to weave those fish traps — once designed to let water flow through while catching fish, now shaped to let light flow through while catching the eye. The weavers deliberately leave small variations in tension across the weave, which a factory would reject as flaws but a trained eye reads as the mark of a real maker.

Above Kitchen Islands

Picture three woven bamboo pendants suspended at staggered heights above a long kitchen island — soft golden light pooling on the counter, decorative shadows climbing the wall behind. The open weave suits island clusters perfectly: light passes through in every direction, lighting both the surface below and the room beyond. For a 1.8 m island, three 30 cm pendants spaced 60 cm apart works beautifully; larger 40–50 cm pendants suit shorter clusters of two.

Above Dining Tables

Over a dining table, a single large woven bamboo pendant becomes the centrepiece of every evening meal. The open weave casts a uniquely intricate shadow pattern on the table itself — a texture you don't get from a smooth-shaded pendant. Choose a pendant 12 inches narrower than the table width: for a 150 cm table that's roughly 40–45 cm, and for a 180 cm table around 50 cm.

For Bedside & Reading Nooks

A single 25–30 cm woven bamboo pendant above a bedside table changes the whole feel of a bedroom. Where a table lamp takes up surface space, a pendant frees it — and the open weave casts soft, decorative light that's far warmer to read by than a bare bulb. Hang it 18–24 inches above the bedside surface; two matched pendants either side of the bed look effortlessly considered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Woven bamboo pendant lights feature a loose, open weave that creates airy shadow patterns and maximum light diffusion — ideal when you want the pendant to cast its own pattern on surrounding walls. Wicker bamboo pendant lights use tighter, more structured weaving for added durability and refined texture, better suited to high-traffic kitchen and entryway positions. Rattan bamboo pendant lights use rattan cane strips woven into more intricate, detailed designs with a slightly smoother finish. All three are handwoven by Thai artisans from sustainably-harvested materials, but the look and light effect differ noticeably.

For an 8-foot ceiling, hang the bottom of the pendant 30–36 inches above a table or countertop (add roughly 3 inches per extra foot of ceiling height). For bedrooms, hang 18–24 inches above bedside tables. For kitchen islands with multiple pendants, space them 24–30 inches apart and aim for the bottom to sit about 75–90 cm above the worktop. Always follow the included hardware; plug-in versions need only a ceiling hook and a nearby socket. For hardwired installs, call a qualified electrician — most take under 30 minutes.

We offer both. Most of our woven bamboo pendant lights come as hardwired ceiling fixtures for a permanent, clean install — ideal if you have an existing ceiling rose or are happy to call an electrician. Several designs also come as plug-in versions with a 3-metre adjustable cord, a ceiling hook, and a switch built into the cord. Plug-in versions suit renters, rooms without ceiling roses, conservatories, and anyone wanting a quick setup. Check each product page for installation type, or send us a photo of your room and we'll recommend the right option.

For dining tables, choose a pendant 12 inches narrower than the table width — a 60-inch table suits a 40 cm pendant. For a multi-pendant cluster over a kitchen island, choose pendants between 25 and 35 cm and space them 60–80 cm apart. For a single large pendant over an island, go bigger — 45–60 cm depending on island length. As a general room-size rule, add the room's length and width in feet; that number in inches is a good diameter guide for one central pendant. Email us a photo of your space and we'll send a size recommendation.

Not a problem. Every order comes with a 30-day return window — if the light doesn't work in your space, contact us and we'll arrange a free return. We also offer styling advice by email if you're unsure which design suits your interior: send a photo of the room (with current furniture, lighting and ceiling height noted) and we'll recommend the right size, style and placement before you order. We'd rather spend 10 minutes helping you choose than process a return.
