Black bamboo pendant lights bring contrast and definition to a room in a way natural shades can't. Each piece in this collection is handwoven by Thai artisans from bamboo strips, then finished in a deep black that keeps the weave texture visible while sharpening the silhouette against a pale ceiling or wall. The result is a warm golden glow downward through the open weave, with crisp shadow patterns thrown around it. Pieces like the TEERAYA Black, JUNDARA and BLACK VAREE show the range, from flexible shape-it-yourself shades to bold rounded forms.
Our black bamboo pendant lights are available as plug-in fixtures with an adjustable cord or as hardwired ceiling pendants, and in sizes from compact 25–30 cm shades for bedsides up to oversized 50 cm-plus pieces for dining tables and islands. The black finish suits modern, minimalist, Japandi and industrial-leaning rooms where a natural shade would blend in too quietly. Against glass or moulded fixtures the handwoven texture reads as styled and deliberate rather than builder-grade — the reason designers reach for woven shades in the first place.
The artisans in our village transformed the weaving they once used for bamboo fishing traps into these pendant lights, carrying generations of weaving heritage into a modern home. For the black range, the shade is woven first and finished afterwards by hand, so the dark colour settles into the weave rather than hiding it — the same craft, in a bolder key.
Picture a dark woven shade hanging over your dining table, the warm light pooling on the table below while the black form reads sharp against the ceiling. Black pendants anchor a room more firmly than natural ones — they hold their own in modern kitchens, over islands, and in rooms with bold or monochrome palettes. Larger sizes (40 cm and up) work as the single anchor over a table.
In a reading corner, hallway or beside a bed, a small black pendant adds a point of contrast without taking over. The dark shade frames the light tightly and suits minimalist and industrial corners where you want one crisp, deliberate detail rather than a soft natural glow.
The black is applied by hand over the woven bamboo shade after weaving, so the texture of the weave still shows through rather than being hidden under a thick coat. Used indoors as a pendant light, the finish is stable and won't fade in normal conditions — keep it out of constant direct sunlight and damp rooms, as you would any natural-fibre piece. A light occasional dust with a soft brush keeps it looking sharp; for marks, wipe gently with a barely-damp cloth and let it dry fully before use.
Over a dining table, hang the bottom of the shade 70–85 cm (28–34 in) above the tabletop on a standard 8-ft ceiling; over a kitchen island or counter, 60–75 cm (24–30 in) above the surface. Above a bedside table, 45–60 cm works well. Space multiple pendants 60–75 cm apart and use odd numbers in a cluster — they look more balanced. Every light ships with its mounting hardware; for hardwired fittings, use a qualified electrician.
Both. Most designs come as hardwired ceiling fixtures for a permanent, seamless look, and many are also available as plug-in versions with an adjustable cord, a ceiling hook and an in-line switch — ideal for renters or rooms without a ceiling rose. We also sell cord kits separately. Check the individual product page for the installation type, or send us a photo of your room and we'll point you to the right option.
Bamboo pendants give a warm, naturally diffused light — the open weave casts a soft golden glow and gentle shadow rather than a bright, even flood. Fit a warm-white LED (around 2700K) with enough output for the room: roughly 800 lumens for a small space, 1100 or more for a dining or living area. Because the weave softens the light, pick a slightly higher-output bulb than you would behind a solid shade, and a dimmable one so you can go from bright at dinner to a low glow afterwards. In a kitchen or workspace, treat the pendant as ambient light and add task lighting over worktops.
Not a problem. Every order comes with a 30-day return window — if the light doesn't work in your space, contact us and we'll arrange a free return. We also offer styling advice by email: send a photo of the room, with ceiling height and nearby furniture noted, and we'll recommend the right size and placement before you order. We'd rather spend ten minutes helping you choose than have you send it back.
