Most of our wall decor weighs under 1 kg and hangs from a single picture hook or a 3M Command strip rated for the weight. Every piece leaves the village with a wall-mount loop or a discreet hanging hook worked into the back during weaving, so there is nothing to assemble. For heavier rattan pieces, or for plasterboard walls, use a plasterboard fixing rated for at least 3 kg. Planning a grouping? Lay the pieces on the floor first and settle the arrangement before you make any holes. Vary the gaps a little, 8 to 15 cm looks more relaxed and gallery-like than dead-even spacing.
Handwoven wall decor sits most naturally in boho, coastal, Japandi, wabi-sabi and modern minimalist rooms, anywhere the warm, organic texture of natural fibre adds something a flat print cannot. Against off-white, warm cream or clay-toned walls, the weave catches sidelight beautifully. It also works over textured plaster, exposed brick and timber cladding, where the material of the wall echoes the material of the piece. Try to avoid busy patterned wallpaper, where the weave and the pattern compete for attention. A good rule of thumb: the wall decor should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture below it, whether that is a sofa, a bed or a console table.
For a single feature piece over a sofa or bed, aim for a width around two-thirds of the furniture below, a 200 cm sofa suits a 130 to 140 cm piece, or a grouping that covers that width. For a grouped arrangement, mix three sizes rather than repeating one: one large, one medium, and one or two small. Over a console or hallway sideboard, a piece 60 to 80 cm wide sits well. Small pieces under 40 cm look best in odd-numbered groups of three or five, on either side of a doorway, or worked into a gallery wall alongside framed art.
Dust natural-fibre wall decor gently every couple of months with a soft brush, a clean paintbrush, or a vacuum on its lowest setting with a soft brush attachment. Keep it out of damp rooms, steamy bathrooms or spots right beside kitchen steam, as moisture can warp the weave over time. If a piece hangs in direct sunlight for years, rattan and palm leaf will lighten a little; this is normal and most customers treat it as part of the patina. Spot-clean any marks with a barely damp cloth, and never soak a woven piece.
