Large bamboo pendant lights do more than light a room — they give it a centre. Each piece here is handwoven by Thai artisans from bamboo or rattan into a wide or tall shade, many 40 cm across or more, that spreads a warm golden glow over the space below. The open weave throws soft shadow onto the ceiling and walls, so the light feels generous rather than harsh. Pieces like the DARIN (48 cm tall, 38 cm across) and the TEERAYA, up to 83 cm tall in XXXL, carry the look at full scale.
Our large bamboo pendant lights are sold as shades only, to hang from a plug-in pendant kit or a hardwired ceiling cord set, both sold separately, and the TEERAYA runs all the way up to XXL and XXXL. They suit dining tables, kitchen islands, open-plan living spaces and tall stairwells, anywhere one wide shade can anchor the room. For smaller corners, see our small bamboo pendant lights.
Every shade here is woven by hand from bamboo or rattan, and a wide or tall shade like DARIN or TEERAYA shows that handwork at full scale, with a texture and presence a moulded fixture can't match.
Picture warm light spilling across the whole table at dinner, the wide weave throwing soft pattern across the ceiling above. A large bamboo pendant anchors a dining table or island as a single piece — choose a shade roughly 30 cm (12 in) narrower than the table width so it reads generous without crowding the space.
In a double-height room, a stairwell, or an open-plan living space, a large shade fills volume that a small pendant can't. Hung high, a tall piece like the 83 cm XXXL TEERAYA draws the eye up and warms the whole room with a single source of soft golden light.
Most shades here are around 40 cm (about 16 inches) across or more, and the TEERAYA runs up to XXXL. Around 40 cm (16 in) is wide enough to anchor a table or island without overwhelming a standard room, while the widest pieces, about 50 to 60 cm across, suit larger tables, open-plan spaces and tall ceilings. Check each product page for the height and diameter. As a guide for a dining table, choose a shade roughly 30 cm (12 in) narrower than the table width.
Over a dining table, hang the bottom of the shade 70–85 cm (28–34 in) above the tabletop on a standard 8-ft ceiling; over a kitchen island, 75–90 cm of clearance below the light works well. In a tall or double-height room you can hang higher to fill the volume. A large single pendant usually reads better than several small ones over one table. Shades come with their hanging hardware, but without a cord or bulb; for hardwired fittings, use a qualified electrician.
No. Woven bamboo and rattan shades are lightweight, even in the larger sizes. They come with their hanging hardware but no cord, so hang yours from a plug-in pendant kit or a ceiling cord set, both sold separately, and make sure the ceiling fitting is secure.
A large shade spreads warm, naturally diffused light over a wide area, but the open weave softens it rather than flooding the room. Fit a warm-white LED (around 2700K) with plenty of output — 1100 lumens or more for a dining or living area, and consider two bulbs or a cluster for a large open-plan space. Choose a slightly higher-output bulb than you would behind a solid shade, and a dimmable one so you can take it from bright at dinner to a soft evening glow. Over a kitchen island, treat it as ambient light and add task lighting on the worktop.
Not a problem. Every order comes with a 30-day return window — if the light doesn't work in your space, contact us to arrange a return. Return postage is paid by the customer, and the original shipping cost is deducted from the refund.
