Bamboo and rattan bedroom pendant lights

Every light on this page is a handwoven pendant shade whose own listing names bedrooms, bedside tables or bedside lighting as a place to hang it. Most are natural bamboo. The rattan designs include the moon shaped KAN, the star shaped PALAVEE, the wide KAN WIN and TAWAN. For a darker scheme, TEERAYA Black, ARUNEE Black, JUNDARA Black, BLACK VAREE and BLACK CHA YA NAN are finished in matte black, TEERAYA Brown has a brown finish, and JUNDARA Round is offered in Natural, Brown or Black. Each shade arrives with the hardware it hangs from; you buy the cord set and the bulb separately.

Pendant lights beside the bed

Several listings suggest a single small shade above a bedside table. NAT is 19 cm (7.5 in) tall, MUNTANA is 25 cm (10 in) tall, and JUNDARA Round starts at 18 cm (7 in) in its XS size. KHE MI KA Small is described for hanging individually beside a bed, in natural or black, and the rattan TAWAN comes in a small 26 cm (10 in) or a large 33 cm (13 in) size. Where the ceiling has no light fitting above the spot you have in mind, a plug-in pendant light kit, sold separately, gives you overhead light without hardwiring.

A central bedroom ceiling light

For the main light in the middle of the room, look at the larger shades. KAN WIN is 38 cm (15 in) across, PARADEE is 58 cm to 61 cm (23 in to 24 in) across, and the flexible TEERAYA stands between 35 cm (14 in) and 83 cm (33 in) tall, pressed into a long or a rounded shape. DARIN has a slender neck above a broad, rounded base, like a drop. As the light passes through the open weave it casts patterns of light and shadow, and the listings for shades such as RASRI and ANNANTRA describe the result as a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

Bulbs, cord sets and care

Check each listing for the socket: most name E27, and some name E26 / E27. For a softer evening light, the recommended bulbs are a warm white LED, a vintage style Edison LED or a lower wattage bulb for a soft, relaxing glow. None of these shades is sold with a bulb, and cord sets are sold on their own in our pendant light kits and cord sets. For cleaning, run a feather duster or a dry, soft cloth over the weave, wipe with a slightly damp cloth only when it needs it, and keep the shade out of long periods of direct sun, rain or high humidity.

Grouping shades and mixing bedroom lighting

Some shades are made to be grouped. The MUNTANA listing suggests a cluster above bedside tables for a layered look, and ANANDA, BOONTA and JANTA can hang alone or in a cluster. Handmade shades vary slightly in size, shape and color, so two of the same design may not be identical.
